A stretched canvas print is a type of artwork that involves printing designs onto canvas, then stretching the canvas over a wooden frame. The design/ photo is often wrapped around the edges of the frame as well as the front.
We use quality Italian timber picture frame mouldings 20mm x 20mm for small sizes up to a 20mm x 38mm depth for larger sizes with clear framing acrylic front to avoid damage in transport
Custom-made framing includes a 5cm matt border with a cut-out insert for the print, suitable for smaller frame sizes, or a non-printed 5cm paper border out to the timber frame for larger sizes.
Finishing includes hanger & fittings with brown framers tape & felt bumpons on the back. We use a matt paper 160gsm for framing.
Instead of glass, we use premium-grade, reflection-control acrylic. We use 3mm clear Shinkolite®, it is a premium, continuous cast acrylic known for exceptional optical clarity, durability, and UV resistance. It offers a lightweight alternative to glass that is twice as strong as safety glass.
Please also note that the size listed is the outside edge of the frame; the artwork measurements are inside of the frame
We ensure that every canvas print and framed print is delivered ready to hang, complete with high-quality picture wire for effortless installation. Our durable, heavy-duty picture wire is carefully selected to provide maximum strength and stability, ensuring your artwork stays securely in place on your wall for years to come. Please note that paper prints and rolled canvases are normally delivered with borders that need to be trimmed. This is in order to make sure the edges of the print or not damaged in transit.
We use premium, flexible steel wire, designed to handle a variety of wall mounting setups while preventing sagging or damage. Each frame is professionally fitted with secure D-rings and high-tensile picture wire, allowing you to easily hang your artwork straight out of the box—no extra hardware required. Whether it’s a statement canvas print, a sleek floating frame, or a classic framed print, our expert craftsmanship guarantees a professional, gallery-quality finish that’s both stylish and practical.
Enjoy peace of mind knowing your artwork is not only visually stunning but also engineered for durability and easy display
A rolled or unstretched canvas is just the printed canvas without the wooden frame. It is delivered rolled, ready to be framed by a local framer or draped as it is without a frame. Most people order rolled canvas prints for ease when moving them long distances, for example, overseas. If you want to frame an artwork, it’s best not to order a rolled canvas; instead, please order a paper print.
Wall decals, also known as wall stickers, wall murals, and vinyl stickers, are removable vinyl wall art that is designed to be applied to walls. There are a number of different styles available in a range of sizes, from decals, which cover a section of wall space and can vary in size enormously through to wall murals, which often cover the entire wall.
Our floating frames are our most premium option, they combine a frame with a canvas. I.e. The stretched canvas print sits inside a frame. The Floating Frames have a 5mm gap from the canvas to the inside of the timber frame then a 10mm timber from the frame face and 45mm depth on the side.
We currently not for a black or white floating frame a standard but we also have a premium grade Tasmanian Oak that is available on request.

Lustre paper is a nice option if you’d like to frame the artwork yourself at home. We use 260gsm, high-quality photo lustre paper; it’s ideal for printing photographs on with a nice satin finish. Photo papers have more definition than matte or art papers due to the coating, which enhances the image.
Please note that paper prints are normally delivered with a border that needs to be trimmed off. This is in order to make sure the edges of the print or not damaged in transit. If you don’t want these, please contact us, and we can send them without the border.
We use 290 gsm Moab Entrada Bright White 100% archival fine art paper. This is museum-grade fine art archival 100% rag paper. Rag papers have a loose fibre structure and are ideal for artworks such as print reproductions, giving them a softer look. The archival rag paper is not a standard option but can be ordered if you contact us.
Paper prints are normally delivered with a border that needs to be trimmed off. This is in order to make sure the edges of the print or not damaged in transit. If you don’t want these, please contact us, and we can send them without the border.

Canvas Prints Australia currently features a very large catalogue of artworks, with more than 15,000 designs available across the website. While our AI chatbot can assist with many common questions and offer recommendations, it is not currently able to search for or access every artwork listed on the site.
If you are looking for a specific artwork, artist, or style, we recommend using the search bar at the top of the website, as it often provides the quickest and most accurate results. If you are still unable to find what you are looking for, please contact us directly. We are always happy to help and may be able to source a particular artwork or suggest similar alternatives from our wider catalogue.
At Canvas Prints Australia, we focus on premium-quality products designed to last. All of our prints are professionally produced using high-quality materials and are made here in Australia. Because of this, we unfortunately cannot always offer ongoing discounts or heavily reduced pricing as some larger mass-production competitors may advertise.
That said, we can sometimes offer discounts on larger or multi-item orders on a case-by-case basis. If you are planning a larger purchase, please contact us directly with the details of the items you are interested in, and we will see what we can do to assist.
The largest size we offer as standard on the site is 40 x 60 inches (102cm x 152cm); however, if you need to go larger, let us know, and we’ll see what we can do. We can print up to 140cm on the smaller side of the canvas, or as big as you’d like to print. Please bear in mind that we are limited by the printer’s width, which is 60 inches. We can, however, print as long as a roll of canvas! We are the home of quality wall art and canvas prints online, and are always happy to answer any questions you may have about our service or products.
We print using Canon imagePROGRAF PRO large-format printers, chosen specifically for their exceptional colour accuracy, sharp detail, and consistency across both fine art and photographic work. These professional printers are paired with archival Canon LUCIA 12-colour pigment inks, a premium ink system designed to produce rich tonal depth, smooth gradients, and highly accurate colour reproduction, particularly in subtle shades and complex artwork.
The 12-colour ink set allows for a much wider colour range than standard printing systems, helping us achieve deeper blacks, cleaner neutrals, and more natural transitions in everything from bold contemporary designs to delicate fine art prints. Just as importantly, these pigment-based inks are archival quality, meaning they are designed for long-term durability and excellent resistance to fading when properly displayed.
In simple terms, we use one of the highest-quality professional printing systems available because it allows us to produce artwork that not only looks impressive when first received, but continues to hold its depth, clarity and colour integrity over time.
A stretched canvas print weights a lot less than a framed print, this is one of the many advantages they have over framed prints, as many of our customers buy them as they want to hang them on their walls using non-destructive sticker hooks. Here is a basic guide for the sizes and weights.
- Small Canvas Print: 18″ x 12″ weights approximately 2kg
- Medium Canvas Print: 27″ x 18″ weights approximately 3kg
- Large Canvas Print: 30″ x 20″ weights approximately 5kg
- X Large Canvas Print: 45″ x 30″ weights approximately 6.5kg
- XX-Large Canvas Print: 60″ x 40″ weights approximately 7.5kg
For the ‘Small’ size Framed prints we print a 20mm white border, using a card mat makes the art too small, the printed border gives the impression of a small mat, for example on the 12×18″ size, it looks better, the frame thickness is 20x20mm.
All frames between 12×18″ up to 900mm on the long edge have 20x20mm thick frame and 50mm matt border.
18 x 27″ 20x20mm thick frame and 50mm matt border
24 x 36″ 20x20mm thick frame and 50mm matt border
XL / XXL size: 32 x 43″ & 40 x 60″ – frame thickness is 30x20mm, no card mat, we will print a white border by default but can print all the way to the frame on request when ordering.
*The rule of thumb is, the frame size is 20x20mm for frames up to 1mtr long and 30mmx20mm depth over 1mtr long frames.

For our framed prints, we use a high-grade clear acrylic glazing rather than traditional glass. Visually, it gives the same clean, crisp finish as glass — so once the artwork is on the wall, most people would not notice any difference at all — but it offers several practical advantages that make it a far better choice for framed wall art.
Acrylic is much lighter, far more durable, and significantly safer during transport, which greatly reduces the risk of breakage during delivery across Australia. It also helps keep larger framed pieces easier to handle and hang, while still protecting the artwork beautifully and allowing the colours and detail to remain sharp and clear.
Another advantage is that premium acrylic is less prone to shattering than glass, making it especially suitable for larger framed prints or homes where durability matters. In everyday use, it provides the same elegant presentation while being much more practical for shipping and long-term handling.
The one exception is our push pin map artwork. Because these designs are intended to be used interactively with pins, we do not use acrylic or glass on push pin maps, as the surface needs to remain fully accessible for pinning locations. This allows customers to use the artwork properly while still keeping the framed finish clean and practical.
So in short: all standard framed prints use premium acrylic glazing, while push pin maps are left uncovered by design so they can function exactly as intended.
A good starting point is to think about the wall itself rather than just the artwork. In most rooms, wall art tends to look best when it fills around 60% to 75% of the available wall space, particularly if it is being placed above furniture such as a sofa, bed, sideboard or console. As a simple guide, if you are hanging artwork above a sofa or bed, the piece should usually be around two-thirds of the width of the furniture beneath it so that everything feels balanced rather than too small or overpowering.Larger rooms and open-plan spaces often suit bigger artwork far better than people first expect. One oversized canvas or framed print can often create a stronger, more finished look than several smaller pieces, especially in modern Australian homes where walls tend to be wider and ceilings higher. Smaller prints can work beautifully too, but they usually need to be grouped thoughtfully if they are filling a larger area.
A very practical way to judge size before ordering is to mark out the dimensions on the wall using masking tape or paper. This quickly shows how the artwork will sit in the space and often makes choosing much easier. If you are unsure, many customers find it safer to go slightly larger rather than smaller, as wall art that is too small is one of the most common mistakes when decorating a room.
The style of room also matters. Bedrooms often suit calmer, balanced proportions, while living rooms, hallways and dining spaces can often carry larger statement pieces comfortably. If you are ordering personalised artwork or something intended as a feature piece, choosing a size with enough presence usually gives the best result.
If you are ever uncertain, feel free to contact us — we are always happy to help suggest a size based on your wall, furniture and overall room style.
No — the thumbnail or main display image shown on the website and sometimes within order confirmations is used as a visual example only. The image itself does not automatically change to reflect every format selected. Your order will always be produced exactly as you choose during checkout. For example, if you select Stretched Canvas Print, you will receive a stretched canvas print; if you select Framed Print, you will receive a framed print, regardless of what the display image may show. The product type selected from the dropdown options is the information used for production, and our team follows it when creating your order.
Yes — we can absolutely produce custom sizes if the exact dimensions you need are not shown on the website. Many customers have a very specific wall space to fill, and in many cases a custom size gives a much better result than trying to fit a standard option into the room.
We are able to produce artwork up to 140 cm on the shortest edge, which means we can create very large statement pieces as well as unusual proportions that may suit hallways, staircases, wide walls, narrow spaces or oversized feature areas. In practical terms, this allows us to print almost any size most homes are likely to need.
Custom sizing is especially popular for larger living rooms, above beds, above sofas, or for spaces where customers want the artwork to sit very precisely within existing furniture or architectural lines. Because we print locally using professional large-format equipment, adjusting dimensions is usually very straightforward.
If you already know the size you would like, simply contact us and we can confirm what will work best for the artwork you have chosen. If you are unsure, we are also happy to suggest dimensions based on your wall space so the finished piece feels properly balanced in the room.
We use Canon imagePROGRAF PRO large-format printers with archival Canon LUCIA 12-colour pigment inks, which are among the highest-quality professional print systems available for fine art and photographic reproduction. These are genuine pigment-based archival inks rather than standard dye inks, which is important because pigment inks are specifically designed for long-term colour stability, deeper tonal accuracy, and far greater resistance to fading over time.
Under normal indoor display conditions, a premium print produced with this type of archival pigment ink system can realistically retain its colour integrity for many decades, and in many cases well beyond 70 years when kept out of direct harsh sunlight. Canon’s own permanence data for LUCIA pigment systems shows display life commonly rated at around 80 years behind glass, with significantly longer life in protected conditions, and even longer archival life when stored carefully.
Of course, longevity always depends on where the artwork is placed. Like any premium wall art, avoiding prolonged direct sun, excessive humidity, or extreme heat will help preserve colour for as long as possible. In normal Australian home conditions — living rooms, bedrooms, hallways and offices — customers should expect exceptional long-term performance, with the print remaining vibrant for decades rather than years.
In short, we use a museum-grade printing system because we want the artwork to look just as impressive many years from now as it does when first unwrapped.
Yes — for all personalised artwork, we always send a digital proof before anything goes to print so you can see exactly how your design will look first. This gives you the chance to check wording, layout, colours, spelling, dates, locations or any other personal details before production begins.
Proofs are usually sent within 48 hours of ordering, and very often much sooner, depending on the design and the time the order is placed. We know personalised artwork often carries important meaning, so we want customers to feel completely confident before the final print is produced.
You are also very welcome to request changes once you receive the proof. In fact, we encourage it if there is anything you would like adjusted, whether that is a small wording change or a more noticeable layout tweak. We continue refining the design until you are 100% happy with the result.
Nothing is printed until you have approved the proof, which means you can order knowing there is still a chance to fine-tune the artwork before it is made.
No — our personalised pushpin maps do not use glass or acrylic over the artwork, as the pins need to be pushed directly into the map surface. Adding glass or acrylic would prevent the map from functioning properly as a pushpin map.
For this reason, we highly recommend our stretched canvas pushpin maps, which are our signature format. These are specifically designed to perfectly support pins while also giving the artwork a much more premium and impactful appearance on the wall compared to traditional framed prints.
Our stretched canvas pushpin maps are built using a specialist construction method that allows customers to pin destinations securely while still enjoying a clean, high-end personalised artwork designed to last for years.
A personalised star map is a custom artwork that shows how the stars appeared from a specific location on a particular date and time chosen by you. Rather than being generic night sky art, each design is created around a real moment that has personal meaning, which is why star maps are one of the most popular forms of personalised wall art.
Many customers choose meaningful occasions such as a wedding day, anniversary, first meeting, engagement, new baby arrival or birthday. Because the star positions are linked to that exact moment, the finished artwork becomes both visually striking and deeply personal.
Yes — each personalised star map is generated using astronomical positioning data so that the stars shown reflect the actual night sky from your chosen location, date and time.
This means the design is not simply decorative space artwork; it is built around how the night sky genuinely appeared at that moment. That is why many people see personalised night sky art as one of the most meaningful gifts for major life occasions, because it captures a moment that cannot ever be repeated in exactly the same way.
Personalised star maps are especially popular for occasions where a date carries emotional significance.
Some of the most common include:
Wedding Anniversaries
Wedding Days
Engagement Gifts
New Baby Births
First Date Memories
Valentine’s Day Gifts
Housewarming Gifts
Significant Birthdays
Because personalised night sky art combines a beautiful visual design with a specific memory, it often becomes one of the most talked-about pieces in a room.
Yes — wording is fully customisable on most star map designs.
Customers often include:
Names
Dates
Locations
A Favourite Quote
A Short Personal Message
This allows the artwork to feel unique to the person receiving it, while still keeping the clean design that makes personalised star maps work so well as modern wall art.
Yes — all personalised star maps include a proof before printing.
You will usually receive this within 48 hours, often much sooner, giving you the chance to check wording, dates, layout and overall appearance before production begins.
Nothing is printed until you are happy with the design.
Absolutely. Many customers ask for small refinements once they see the proof, such as wording adjustments, layout changes or minor design tweaks.
You are welcome to request changes until you are 100% happy, because personalised artwork should feel exactly right before it is printed.
Each artwork is printed to order, we do not hold an inventory of stock therefore we cannot accept returns unless the artwork has been damaged in transit or is faulty. All art is sold as seen on the site, the displayed prints are shown as Stretched canvas Prints, a Framed Print will naturally have a frame around it as opposed to stretcher bars and rolled or paper prints are delivered without frames.
The shipping method depends primarily on the size of the finished artwork. Orders that fit within parcels under approximately 1 metre in length — for example many canvas prints up to around 90cm depending on the format selected — are normally sent via registered Australia Post, providing reliable tracked delivery Australia-wide. Larger artworks that exceed standard parcel dimensions require specialist handling and will generally be sent via one of our trusted courier partners instead. This helps ensure larger canvas prints, framed prints and oversized wall art arrive safely and securely. Once your order has been dispatched, tracking details will be provided so you can follow its progress.
Because we operate on a print-on-demand model, we don’t hold traditional stock levels for our artwork. Every piece is produced specifically for each order, which means if you can see a product listed on our website, it is generally available to order. This also allows us to offer a much larger range of artwork, sizes and media options without products constantly moving in and out of stock. Whether you’re ordering canvas prints, framed prints, floating frames, personalised artwork or custom designs, everything is created fresh to order by our team.
